In a press conference on Sunday, Mohammed Zaqout, the General Director of Gaza's hospitals, issued a dire warning about the catastrophic situation at Al-Shifa Medical Complex. The situation threatens the lives of approximately 650 patients and casualties, including 36 children.
The hospital remains surrounded by tanks from all directions, and patients in the intensive care unit have lost their lives due to oxygen and electricity shortages.
Dr. Muneer Al-Barsh, the General Director of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, expressed concerns about the Al-Shifa Medical Complex turning into a “large cemetery”. He emphasized ongoing efforts to save vulnerable children.
The spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Health, Ashraf Al-Qidra, reported severe damage to the intensive care unit following a second attack on Sunday. The cardiac unit also sustained significant damage during the morning assault.
Tragically, five infants in the pediatric unit lost their lives on Monday, bringing the total number of infants who died due to the interruption of medical services at Al-Shifa Hospital to seven within 48 hours. At least 37 critically ill newborns are at risk in the intensive care unit.
The risk extends to kidney dialysis patients who may die due to the inability to receive treatment and the accumulation of toxins in their blood.

Earlier, Dr. Muneer Al-Barsh stated that all hospitals in Gaza, except Al-Mamdani Hospital, were out of service. Al-Mamdani Hospital was reopened after the massacre at the beginning of the war.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced the complete closure of Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City. The hospital ceased operations due to depleted fuel supplies and power outages.
“The medical staff is making every effort to provide care amidst dire humanitarian conditions, including shortages of medical supplies, food, and water.”
Repeated appeals for urgent international assistance have been made, but the continuous blockade, lack of communications, and internet outage for five days have hindered effective responses.
The Israeli military's intensified presence has separated southern and northern areas, preventing ambulance access to affected areas.
Doctors Without Borders warned that if the bloodshed is not halted immediately through a ceasefire or minimum patient evacuation, hospitals will turn into morgues. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 20 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are now "out of service" during this critical time.
During the ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, and in light of the Israeli allegations that the Hamas movement is using hospitals as command centers, the occupation army imposed a comprehensive siege on Al-Shifa and Al-Quds hospitals, preventing anyone from entering or leaving it, and continuously bombing some of its floors and bombing its surroundings.
For 37 consecutive days of the Israeli attack on Gaza, 11.078 people, including 4.506 children and 3.027 women, have been killed by Israel.
